Packaging Copy
I’m a sucker for stories.
It’s probably just me, but I love to read to read the “how it came to be” stories on products I buy.
Take Clif bars – “Clif Bar is named after my father, Clifford, my childhood hero and companion throughout the Sierra Nevada Mountains.” How cool is that?
And then there’s Annie of Annie’s Macaroni and Cheese. Ever read one of her boxes? Everything from the “We purchase renewable energy for our facilities” to the “Dear Friend” letter on the back of the box makes me want to buy her products.
Do you remember Fresh Samantha juices? Before the company was bought out by Odwala, Fresh Samantha was based in Saco, Maine – right around the corner. Abby Carter’s whimsical illustrations, the names – “Desperately Seeking C,” “Mango Mama,” “Oh, Happy Day” made me smile. Sure, the juice was terrific, but the packaging sold me. Was Samantha really fresh?? Probably…
What does that have to do with me?
Maybe nothing.
But if you sell a consumable good and aren’t telling your story, you may be missing out and leaving money on the shelf.
Everyone loves a glimpse behind the curtain…give them one and chances are, they’ll come back again and again.
I couldn’t agree more. What now?

And isn’t that the point? Tell your story, move your customers, sell more product. Easy.
