1. Connect your blog to your website
A big benefit of regular blogging is how much it helps with SEO. Since each post has its own individually indexed page, each post increases your website’s indexed footprint making it easier for customers and prospects to find you when they search online.
2. Make sure your blog is visually appealing and interaction-friendly
Does your blog load quickly? Is the font easy-to-read? Can readers find old posts? Are the calls-to-action clear and user-friendly? Yes, you need great content, but you need to present it in a likeable and fully functional format.
3. Offer up helpful, informative posts rather than salesy product or service-centric posts
This one’s kind of obvious. People want to learn and to be entertained, but they don’t want to be sold. Make yourself invaluable by offering hard-to-find DIY information, provide an interesting perspective, answer questions, do anything that lets your readers know you’re focused on his/her needs rather than your own. That’s the way to build a loyal readership.
4. Take your time to include key search phrases
Figure out the phrases your customers and prospects type in when they want to find your product or service and write articles around each search phrase.
5. Use a catchy title that includes your keywords
Take time to write a title that will intrigue your reader enough that he/she clicks through to the article. Include the keyword phrase in your title for maximum visibility.
6. Publish on a regular schedule
Publish at least once a week in the beginning. As you get more comfortable and your readership increases, build up to 4 or 5 posts each week for maximum blog value.
7. Encourage your readers to interact with your post
End articles with questions, ask for your readers’ perspectives, and invite them to add comments. Make it easy for your readers to sign up for email notifications of new posts. Include social media buttons so your readers can easily share your content.
8. Promote content on social media
It’s a social world; use it to the max. Depending on your blog topic, consider posting appropriate article blurbs and links on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or wherever your readers gather. Be respectful and don’t spam.
9. Learn all you can from analytics
Who’s reading your blog? Where did they come from? What keywords did they use to find your site? How long did they stay on your blog? Which page did they use to enter? Where did they exit? The more you understand about your reader, the better. Once you have a meaningful amount of data, optimize your blog to better serve your audience.
10. Be patient; successful blogs take time to build, market, and optimize
